چکیده

Halfband lowpass and bandpass filters, versatile building blocks in a multitude of DSP applications, are revisited. Linear-phase FIR and minimum-phase IIR halfband filters for sample rate alteration are recalled, their computational loads are compared, and optimum signal flow graphs are presented. The same comparisons are carried out for corresponding complex halfband filters (Hilbert-transformers) with and without an additional frequency offset by ∆Ω = ±π/4. As expected, the smaller the transition width between passband and stopband the higher the relative advantage of the IIR approach in terms of computation. Yet, there exist ranges of specifications where linearphase FIR halfband filters outperform their minimum-phase IIR counterparts.

On the use of interpolated second-order polynomials for efficient filter design in programmable downconversion

Interpolated second-order polynomials (ISOP’s) are proposed to design efficient cascaded integrator-comb (CIC)based decimation filters for a programmable downconverter. It is shown that some simple ISOP’s can effectively reduce the passband droop caused by CIC filtering with little degradation in aliasing attenuation. In addition, ISOP’s are shown to be useful for simplifying halfband filters t...

Chebyshev Functions-Based New Designs of Halfband Low/Highpass Quasi-Equiripple FIR Digital Filters

Chebyshev functions, which are equiripple in a certain domain, are used to generate equiripple halfband lowpass frequency responses. Inverse Fourier transformation is then used to obtain explicit formulas for the corresponding impulse responses. The halfband lowpass FIR digital filters designed in this way are quasi-equiripple, having performances very close to those of true equiripple filters,...

On an asymptotic analysis of polynomial approximation to halfband filters

ABSTRACT. In this talk we provide information about the asymptotic properties of polynomial filters which approximate the ideal filter. In particular, we study this problem in the special case of polynomial halfband filters. Specifically we estimate the error between a polynomial filter and an ideal filter and show that the error decays exponentially fast. For the special case of polynomial hal...

The design of polyphase-based IIR multiband filters

This paper addresses a new approach for the design of multiband filters with step like magnitude responses and extremely flat, weighted passbands down to μdBs. Our new technique can also be used for the multiband step-wise approximation of arbitrary filter magnitude responses with precise transition band control. One marked advantage of the technique is that our basic building blocks are the mo...

Elegant and Practical Method of Fir Decimation Using Comb Filters in the Field of Digital Signal Processing

This paper deals with the technology of using comb filters for FIR Decimation in Digital Signal Processing. The process of decreasing the sampling frequency of a sampled signal is called decimation. In the usage of decimating filters, only a portion of the out-of-pass band frequencies turns into the pass band, in systems wherein different parts operate at different sample rates. A filter design...
